Lisa's Letter September 2017

Eternal God,

you call us to ventures

of which we cannot see the ending,

by paths as yet untrodden,

through perils unknown.

Give us faith to go out with courage,

not knowing where we go,

but only that your hand is leading us

and your love supporting us,

in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Amen

Martin Luther

This month, we celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation.  On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the doors of All Saints Church in Wittenberg.  That day is recognized as the day the Protestant Christian Church was born.

What strikes me most about Martin Luther’s prayer is how much it still applies today.  God still calls us forward to paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown.  God’s hand still leads us and God’s love still supports us.

We face our own perilous times, from natural disasters to global political unrest.  May we, like Luther, have faith to go out with courage, even while not knowing where we go.

Happy Birthday Protestant Christianity!

Let the Light Shine!

Blessings,
